GCMMF lauds Kurien's contribution

ANAND: The board of directors of the Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) on Friday accepted the resignation of Verghese Kurien from the post of chairman.

The board put on record its appreciation for Dr. Kurien's contributions to the development of the co-operative sector, in general, and the progress of the GCMMF, in particular, in improving the rural economy.

No-confidence motion

The 84-year-old Dr. Kurien, chairman of the GCMMF since its inception in 1973, submitted his resignation on Monday anticipating a no-confidence motion at the board meeting, though several directors denied any such move.

He refused to attend the meeting, pointing out that his resignation was final.

The board decided to organise a function to felicitate Dr. Kurien.

However, contrary to expectations, it did not take any move to appoint Dr. Kurien in some advisory capacity.

Election schedule

The board also authorised the GCMMF managing director, B.M. Vyas, to write to the Anand Collector to notify an election schedule to elect Dr. Kurien's successor.
