HYDERABAD: In a move aimed at checking the risk of seasonal diseases getting out of control, the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad has pressed into service 750 workers to check mosquito breeding grounds and clear cisterns that dot the city and `nalas' that crisscross it. Divided into teams, the personnel have been asked to conduct a door-to-door campaign and ensure that hygienic conditions that help check the spread of summer diseases are maintained, according to Additional Commissioner L. Vandan Kumar. The civic body had received complaints of mosquito menace from some colonies located in the belt between Banjara Hills and Golconda. The MCH teams inspected the ponds and other water bodies including the Saatam Cheruvu on Friday and introduced oil balls. The recent scare of chikungunya at Bholakpur and surrounding areas had the MCH medical teams surveying more than 7,000 residents here. During the camps conducted here, nearly 300 smears were collected and sent for analysis to the National Institute of Virology at Pune.
