Manmohan to raise Sarabjit issue again

Special Correspondent

AMRITSAR: After having twice raised the issue of death row prisoner Sarabjit Singh with Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said on Friday that his Government would leave nothing undone to obtain clemency for the Indian national. Dr. Singh gave this assurance to Sarabjit's sister and daughters at the Circuit House lawns here. "I have myself spoken to General Musharraf twice," he said in Punjabi.

"We will take it [the Sarabjit issue] forward again. I want to assure you of this," he said even as presspersons listened in to the conversation. "We will exert all possible influence."

Earlier, Swapandeep, a B.A. student at Bhikhiwind, said her father, Sarabjit, was innocent, and that they wanted Dr. Singh to help secure his release.
