World TB Day observed in city; rally held

VISAKHAPATNAM: Commissioner of Police V.S.K. Kaumudi on Friday called for concerted efforts to eradicate tuberculosis (TB).

Addressing a meeting at the TB Hospital on the occasion of World TB Day, he said that while it was the duty of the police to ensure a disease-free society, similarly it was the duty of one and all to extend the cooperation to doctors for prevention of TB, the silent killer. He also advised more DOTS (direct observed treatment shortcourse) workers to come forward and implement the DOTS programme.

Rally organised

Earlier, a rally was taken out from Siripuram Junction to the hospital. District Medical and Health Oficer B. Mr. Kaumudi and a patient who fully recovered from the disease, A. Arudra, lit a lamp to mark the inauguration.

District TB Contol Officer P. Balasundara Rao, Chest and Communicable Diseases Hospital Superintendent Subbarao, and others were present on the occasion.
