VISAKHAPATNAM: The Visakha agency area observed a near total bandh on Friday in response to a call given by the CPI (M) demanding the Government not to take up bauxite mining, redesign the Polavaram project and to solve the long-pending problems of Girijans.

More than 100 leaders and workers of the Girijana Sangham and CPI (M) were arrested as they were enforcing the bandh. Those arrested included CPI (M) State secretariat member Ch. Narasinga Rao, Punya Rao, Sudha Rani and others.
