JAIPUR: A group of MLAs belonging to the Congress met the Governor, Pratibha Patil, here on Saturday to request her to terminate the Assembly membership of three legislators of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the State on account of their holding posts of profit. The MLAs who are mentioned in the memorandum submitted to the Governor are Arjun Singh Devra, Premsingh Bajor and Vishnu Modi. The Congress delegation, which comprised MLAs Harimohan Sharma, Chandrashekhar Baid, Samarjeet Singh, Virendra Beniwal, Mahipal Yadav and Brajkishore Sharma, requested Ms. Patil to initiate steps to disqualify the BJP MLAs under the provisions of Article 192 and Article 191(1) as they were holding posts of benefit. The memorandum was signed by 10 MLAs, including the Leader of the Opposition, Ramnarain Choudhary, and Pradesh Congress Committee president B. D. Kalla. Arjun Singh Devra, MLA from Raniwada in Pali district, is vice-chairman of the 20 Point Implementation Committee in the State while Prem Singh Bajor, MLA from Neem Ka Thana in Sikar is chairman of the Soldiers' Welfare Board. Vishnu Modi, MLA from Masuda in Ajmer district is chairman of the Inter-State Water Cell. The Congress MLAs told Ms. Patil that all the three BJP MLAs were appointed by the State Government and were being accorded the status and perks of a Cabinet Minister or a Minister of State. These posts were not Constitutional, they pointed out.
