ALAPPUZHA: The Janata Dal (United) will contest 20 seats in alliance with the BJP in the elections to the State Assembly, party State president A.S. Radhakrishnan has said. At a press conference here, Mr. Radhakrishnan said the party national committee president George Fernandez would announce the names of candidates in New Delhi shortly. Mr. Radhakrishnan said the recent developments in Karnataka where a major group of the Janata Dal (Secular) broke away from the alliance with the Congress had proved that socialist parties could not align with the Congress for long. While the UDF and the LDF MPs supported the UPA Government at the Centre, both had failed to force it to take favourable steps for the development of State.
