Many hurt as pandal collapses

NARROW ESCAPE: People, including women and children, escaped unhurt when the pandal put up for a function collapsed at Arkeri Tanda in Bijapur taluk on Saturday.

BIJAPUR: Hundreds of people, including women and children, had a narrow escape when thepandal put up at Arkeri Tanda in Bijapur taluk for a government function collapsed on Saturday owing to gusty wind. Many suffered bruises in the incident.

There was chaos when people ran for safety. Patil, MLC, General Scretary of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee Prakash Rathod, Bijapur Zilla Panchayat President Arjun Rathod, Chief Executive Officer Rajeev Ranjan, Bijapur Taluk Panchayat President Bebi Chandrashekhar Chavan and members of the zilla panchayat were on the dais when incident occurred.

Earlier, Mr. Prakash Rathod and Mr. Patil laid the foundation stones for 33 water supply schemes under the Jala Nirmal Yojana. These schemes are aimed at providing drinking water to 33 Lambani tandas at a cost of Rs. 4 crores.
