Plan will be implemented in a few months: Chennigappa

  • City to be made attractive to investors
  • BMP and government departments to execute plan

Bangalore: Minister for Forests and Environment C. Chennigappa on Saturday unveiled a multi-pronged proposal to spruce up Bangalore to attract investors. The plan will be implemented by the Mahanagara Palike (BMP) and a host of government departments in a few months.

Speaking to presspersons after a meeting of senior officials of the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, the Minister said he has been directed by the former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda and Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy to give a facelift to Bangalore. His top priority is to rid the city of garbage dumps and overflowing sewage, which are mainly due to the mushrooming of residential layouts.

Mr. Chennigappa, who visited parts of Bangalore, including Jali Mohalla near the City Market and the surroundings of Victoria Hospital, said the operation will involve the Health, Police and Forest and Environment departments as well as the BMP. A meeting of officials of the departments will be convened shortly and it will be addressed by the Chief Minister, he said.

He said he has asked the BMP to plant saplings in vacant spots along roads and government land to increase the tree cover.
