BANGALORE: Ruling out any inquiry by State or Central agencies into the reported illegal mining in Bellary district, Minister for Environment and Forests C. Chennigappa told the Legislative Council that the State Government has asked the Centre to undertake a satellite survey of the areas in question. The Minister was replying to K.C. Kondaiah, B.K. Chandrashekar and V.S. Ugrappa of the Congress who, on Friday, raised the issue of the Government incurring huge losses owing to illegal mining of iron ore and damage to roads and bridges caused by overloaded lorries carrying the ore. Responding to questions from Mr. Patil, Prof. Chandrashekar, Mr. Ugrappa and others, the Minister said that officials have already prepared a report and they are capable of preparing a comprehensive report. When members demanded that the report he was referring to be placed before the House, he submitted it to the Chair.
