KARIMNAGAR: The Rs. 54.85 crores budget of the Karimnagar Municipal Corporation for the year 2006-07 was accepted by corporators amid protests by the opposition TDP and BJP members on Saturday. The budget had allocated major share of funds for the development of slums in the town with Rs. 9 crores, development of drains at a cost of Rs. 5 crores, roads at Rs. 3 crores, water schemes - Rs. 4 crores, sanitation works - Rs. 3.44 crores, street lights - Rs. 2 crores, parks and recreation works - Rs. 50 lakhs, spill over works - Rs. 4 crores. The TDP and BJP corporators grilled the ruling party corporators for failing to include Minister for Sports M. Satyanarayana Rao's promise of sanctioning Rs. 160-crore developmental works in the town in the budget. Mayor D. Shankar and Commissioner G. Ram Reddy were also present.
