Varsity syndicate elections

Election for the Madras University Syndicate was held on Saturday.

The newly-elected members are: Madras University professors R. Thandavan, M. Michael Aruldoss, P. Periyakali and R.Thilagaraj, Kalyani Annie of Bakthavatsalam College, Korattur and former Registrar of Madras University Shanmugam.

Woman killed

A 38-year-old woman died of burn injuries while preparing tea in the kitchen at her house in Chitlapakkam on Saturday morning.

Police identified the victim as Kodhai, 38. Her husband Premkumar, a doctor is undergoing treatment for injuries he sustained while trying to save his wife.

Police said while her saree caught fire accidentally while she was too close to the stove.
