`Contract killer' nabbed

NEW DELHI: A 28-year-old man has been arrested by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police for allegedly killing the father of his acquaintance for Rs. 70,000.

According to the police, the accused Sunil was arrested at Mehrauli in South Delhi on Friday when he came to accept Rs. 70,000 from one Manoj Yadav. A country-made revolver was recovered from him.

The police said Sunil's sister was married and settled in Gurgaon and he came to know Manoj through his brother-in-law. Since Sunil was unemployed, he often requested Manoj to get him a job. Manoj would promise him the same but always turned away Sunil on one pretext or the other. A few months ago, however, Manoj offered Sunil Rs. 70,000 if he killed his father Lilu. He also paid him Rs. 3,000 as advance.

As per plan, Sunil approached Lilu, who was admitted to RML Hospital for treatment, and befriended him. In November last, he managed to take Lilu out of the hospital on a false pretext and took him to a desolate park at Anand Vihar in East Delhi where the duo consumed liquor. However, when Lilu got intoxicated, Sunil mixed sodium nitrate in his drink. Lilu consumed the poisonous liquid and died. Sunil then left the place.
