BANGALORE: An official of the Andhra Pradesh Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC), his wife and two children, attempted suicide in a lodge on Subedar Chatram Road here on Saturday. All the four who were shifted to a hospital are recovering. According to the police, Srihari (45), a Divisional Manager with APSRTC, his wife Uma Maheshwari (35) and children Srikant (18) and Usha (16), had come to the city two weeks ago and were staying in the lodge. On Saturday morning, a boy who had to clean the room knocked on the door. On getting no reply, he alerted the supervisor, who informed the police. When the police broke open the door, they found all the four lying on the beds. The police found a bottle of Metacid in the room. The four were shifted to a private hospital. The police said that the financial losses suffered by Mr. Srihari after he had invested in his brother's business had led the family members to take the extreme step. The police have recovered the letter wherein Mr. Srihari has cited the reason for the family's decision to end their lives.
Succumbs to burns
Srisriya (23) who had suffered burns died in her house at Choolarapalya in Bangalore Rural district on Saturday. According to the police, she had doused herself in kerosene and set herself ablaze. She took the extreme step unable to bear stomach pain, the police said.
Murdered
A dispute led a person to hit his neighbour, resulting in the latter's death. The police said Anjanappa (50), a labourer, was angry with Venkatesh, his neighbour, as the latter's children were playing in the sand in front of his house. Two days ago, when both were quarrelling, Venkatesh and his friend hit Anjanappa with a cricket bat. Anjanappa was immediately admitted to the government hospital, where he died on Saturday.
