SALEM: Members of the Periyar University Co-ordination Council have appealed to the Vice-Chancellor to initiate necessary steps to ensure transparency in the University administration. The members after the Senate meeting on Saturday told mediapersons that the Vice-Chancellor must consult the council members and include their suggestions while revising the University Statute. They protested against him for neglecting the council members during the revision of the Statute.
Tone up administration
The functioning of the Periyar Institute of Distance Education and Periyar Institute of Management Studies was not up to the mark, they charged and asked the University to tone up its administration. Further, the members opposed the university's decision to offer off-campus programmes in association with private institutions. Though the University Grants Commission (UGC) instructed the universities not to conduct off-campus programmes, the Periyar University was offering programmes in the off-campus mode, they alleged. They criticised the university for permitting various education colleges to offer B.Ed programmes on calendar year basis. Pointing out that a few private colleges, which were yet to get permanent affiliation from the university, were operating without renewing their affiliation, the members demanded appropriate action against them.
Convene meeting
They urged the Vice-Chancellor to convene a meeting of the council members to discuss the issues.
