Letters to the Editor
This refers to the editorial "All's well that ends well" (March 25). The CPI (M) Polit Bureau's decision to field the Leader of the Opposition in the Kerala Assembly, V.S. Achuthanandan, in the coming elections is wise, and proves that its earlier decision was unreasonable. The presumption that for a cadre-based party, individual charisma or personality is not important does not hold good in the case of Mr. Achuthanandan. With the leader back on the scene, the Kerala elections have acquired a new dimension.
M.D. Dinesh Nair,
* * * The CPI (M)'s decision is laudable. The reversal by the Polit Bureau of its original decision bowing to popular demand is unprecedented. Mr. Achuthanandan has been in the forefront of all genuine agitations in the last five years. The people of Kerala want to see him fighting for the people's cause as Chief Minister.
B. Dileep,
* * * The development shows how even an iron willed party has to bow to popular sentiment. Tough days await Mr. Achuthanandan in the event of the Left Democratic Front winning the elections. He will have to redefine what development is and find an asylum for Kerala's millions whose voices have been drowned in the hullabaloo of globalisation.
K.T. Dinesh,
* * * People cutting across party lines hold Mr. Achuthanandan, or V.S., in high esteem for his relentless toil for the cause of the common man. It is leaders like him who have kept the socialist bloc intact in the State. The treatment meted out to him by the CPI (M) is unlikely to go unnoticed. The rank and file and party sympathisers are bound to react when they vote in the elections.
V.P. Ramesan,
