Man held for `links with naxals'

Belgaum: The Murgod police arrested a 39-year-old man identified as Ningappa Fakeerappa Bannur in connection with two cases relating to alleged Naxal activities in Yergatti of Saudatti taluk on Friday night.

The police sources told The Hindu that Ningappa, alias Mallikarjun alias Satish Banjara, was wanted in connection with cases registered against him in Raichur Rural Police Station in 2000 and another at Yappadinni village Andhra Pradesh in 1998.

A post-graduate in Arts, he had served as a schoolteacher at Nagnur in Gokak taluk.
