CHENNAI: Amid the debate over the Tamil Nadu Professional Courses Entrance Examination (TNPCEE) this year, the issue of B.Arch admissions seems to have escaped public notice. The five-year programme requires candidates to take an admission test according to the Council of Architecture (CoA) norms. The CoA, New Delhi, has strict regulations and does not accord recognition to a student's B.Arch degree if he or she had been admitted to the course without taking an entrance examination testing his or her aptitude for architecture . At the national level, the CBSE is conducting the entrance test for architecture programmes through the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) right from the inception of the exam in 2002. This year, the Aptitude Test in Architecture (ATA) is to be held throughout the country on April 30 (between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.), right after the conduct of the AIEEE. The ATA comprises two parts: the first is an objective test on the science and art of architecture and the second involves drawing and colouring to test the architectural ability and motivation of the candidate. AIMS Education in Chennai trains students for the ATAs. They have just announced their training programme, which will be on till April 25. For details, contact AIMS education at 24337997, 24364954 or 24359822.
