Jagiroad: A battery of star campaigners of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) including Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and L. K. Advani on Sunday appealed to the voters of Assam to give their party a chance. Addressing his first public meeting in Assam, the Gujarat Chief Minister told an election rally at Jagibhakat village here in central Assam's Morigaon district that people have experienced the rule of both the Congress and the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and hence they should give the BJP a chance. Mr. Modi also addressed an election rally at Rangiya in Kamrup district. Mr. Advani, who arrived in the State for the second leg of the campaign in upper Assam, appealed to the voters to vote for the BJP and save Assam from illegal Bangladeshi migrants. He alleged that despite being endowed with oil and gas Assam had lagged behind because of the `misrule' of the Congress and the failure of the AGP to meet the expectations of the people. Mr. Modi said his Government had provided piped gas connections to every household but the Congress Government in Assam could not do that. He said the problem of infiltration of illegal Bangladeshi migrants had become grave in Assam. On the other hand the BJP Government had not allowed Pakistan to indulge in any kind of activities inside Gujarat.
