Better street lighting sought

Pondicherry : Residents in the vicinity of the East Coast Road leading from the junction of the Sivaji Ganesan statue in Lawspet have appealed to the authorities to ensure proper lighting near the statue and reduce the height of the median behind it.

A resident said on Sunday that a two-wheeler rider hit the median on the poorly-lit road on Saturday night.

Another scooterist was in hospital with serious injuries after hitting the median.

Representations to the Public Works Department and the Electricity Board had not yielded results, he said.

If the indifferent attitude continued, there would be more mishaps and some would also be serious, he feared.
