We need to keep moving: Kaif

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Mohammad Kaif and Andrew Strauss focussed on the forthcoming challenges facing India and England ahead of the one-day series that begins with the first match at the Ferozeshah Kotla here on Tuesday.

Even as National selector Kiran More insisted that Virender Sehwag would be available for selection for the match, Kaif agreed there were certain areas that needed to be addressed. "The coach and captain know where to improve," Kaif said.

`Great challenge'

Strauss, giving the English perspective, said, "we have not performed as consistently in one-dayers, particularly away from home. That is a great challenge for us here to build on the momentum we gained in the Test series. India is a very good one-day side, so it is a good gauge for us to see where we are and how far we need to go."

Kaif observed, "it is a matter of learning, and we need to keep moving. We are not panicking too much (about our Test form). The important thing is to keep the players' form going. The team has come up well (in the one-dayers). We have to start the series on a positive note. Fielding has been a strong point of our team. It is one area we have done well and we want to do better."

Strauss pointed out, "we have competed well on our day but haven't done that consistently. This provides the opportunity for a few to stake a claim. Hopefully we will create some headache for the selectors in future. We rate our chances highly. We won't be under-estimating this Indian side. They have played very good one-dayers recently. Some of their players did very well in the side game (in Jaipur). That showed there is lot of strength in depth."
