NEW DELHI. The special committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India on Sunday made some important suggestions regarding the eligibility criteria for national and state-level selectors. Comprising eminent past and current cricketers, the committee suggested that selectors should be offered contracts and made professionals, and accountable for their work. "It was recommended in the meeting that a selector should have fixed tenure and he should be best qualified to take up the job. For this the Board should lay down the qualification," the Chairman of the Special Committee I.S. Bindra said. Mr. Bindra said there was difference of opinion among the members on the number of national selectors to be appointed but there was unanimity that only the "best and qualified" in business should be offered the responsibility. The committee suggested that the selectors be paid handsomely for their services. The cricketers who attended were Kapil Dev, K. Srikkanth, S. Venkatraghavan, M.A.K. Pataudi, Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid, all having the distinction of leading the country. Notable absentees were Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar and Dilip Vengsarkar. Special Correspondent
