NEW DELHI: The Left parties on Sunday mourned the death of Anil Biswas, West Bengal State Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist).

Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee said Mr. Biswas' death came as a great shock to him and all members of the party. The CPI national secretary D. Raja said Mr. Biswas had grown from being a student activist to an acknowledged political leader of standing.

The Revolutionary Socialist Party MP Abani Roy said loss of Mr. Biswas would be felt more because he departed at a time when elections were due in the State.
