Bangalore: The State Government has granted "in principle" approval for allotment of 845 acres of land to software major Infosys Technologies Limited for its second campus on Sarjapur Road on the outskirts of Bangalore at an estimated cost of Rs. 1,500 crores. "Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy has approved the recommendation of the land audit committee to allot the land required by Infosys to build its second software development centre and residential quarters for its employees on Sarjapur Road," M.K. Shankaralinge Gowda, Secretary, Information Technology and Biotechnology, has said. The Bangalore campus of Infosys on 79.76 acres at Electronics City is the largest software export unit on any single location in the country and employs 16,000 people. As part of its expansion plans, Infosys had sought two plots from the Government. On one plot, the company will set up its largest software development centre in the country spread across 400 acres, which will generate employment for 25,000 people. On the second plot, residential facilities for its employees and amenities such as a school and a hospital will be built. "Both plots will be fully utilised with a proposed investment of Rs. 1,500 crores in the first phase," according to the company.
