Re-accreditation process on course at university

National Assessment and Accreditation Council team arrives


  • Assessment will be conducted till March 30
  • Vice-Chancellor makes PowerPoint presentation
  • MKU very keen to get a higher grading this time

    MADURAI: An eight-member peer team from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) on Sunday began its visit to the Madurai Kamaraj University as part of re-accreditation process.

    The team would meet all faculty members, students and administrative departments during their assessment that will be conducted till March 30.

    A traditional welcome was accorded to the NAAC team on their arrival at the campus and the university authorities formally received them.

    The Vice-Chancellor, P. Maruthamuthu, made a PowerPoint presentation to the NAAC team about the progress made by the university ever since it first received its accreditation more than five years ago.

    He explained in detail the achievements of various teaching departments and initiatives taken to modernise the administration.

    Prof. Anand Deb Mukhopadhyay, former Vice-Chancellor, Vidyasagar University in Kolkata, who is the chairperson of the peer team, leads the NAAC team.

    University officials said the MKU is very keen to get a higher grading from the NAAC this time.

    The university Registrar, V. Alagappan, and Syndicate members, along with the deans, were among those who were present at the reception function.

    The peer team

    Those in the NAAC peer team were: John Kattakayam, Director of Academic Staff College at University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram, Nishi Pandey, Director, Academic Staff College, University of Lucknow, Keshav Sharma, Professor, Department of Management Studies, University of Jammu, Ajit Sodhi, Professor and Coordinator, School of Biotechnology, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, and C. Manoharachary, former professor, Osmania University, Hyderabad.

    Joseph Zacharias, former General Manager, Fenner India, would be the industry observer in the team and Latha Pillai, adviser, NAAC, is also a member of the peer team.
