Pulaya Sabha stakes claim for seat

KOCHI: The Akhila Vypeen Pulaya Vamshodharini Sabha (Pulaya welfare association of the Vypeen island) has urged both the UDF and LDF to choose their candidates for Njarackal constituency from the Pulaya community. The Sabha claimed that Pulayas constituted 85 per cent of the Scheduled Caste population in the constituency. If the UDF and LDF failed to field Pulaya candidates, the community will be forced to `take certain decisions' that would hurt both fronts, a Sabha statement warned. — Special Correspondent

Shipyard Workers' Union meeting

KOCHI: The 26th annual meeting of the Cochin Shipyard Workers' Union, affiliated to the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), was organised at St. George's Parish Hall, Pallimukku, on Sunday.

State Secretary of the CITU K. Chandran Pillai inaugurated the meeting. N. Satheesh, president of the union, presided over the meeting. — Staff Reporter
