  • More amenities to be provided in all railway stations
  • 50,000 passengers pass through station daily

VIJAYAWADA: Following an initiative by the Ministry of Railways, more and more passenger amenities such as food plazas, cyber cafes and automated teller machine (ATM) counters would be commissioned in all railway stations, according to Additional Divisional Railway Manager K.V.V. Satyanarayana.

Speaking at the inaugural function of Andhra Bank's ATM counter on platform No. 1 of the Vijayawada railway station on Monday, Mr. Satyanarayana said the counter would cater to the needs of passengers as well as thousands of railway employees. "Nearly 50,000 passengers pass through the Vijayawada station every day. Apart from withdrawing cash, the counter can be used for transferring funds and also recharging SIM cards," he added.

    Tenders called

He said tenders were called for commissioning ATM counters from Gudur to Anakapalle. "Very soon, tenders would be finalised and work would be commenced. Work to commission a cyber café at Vijayawada station has been granted to TATA Videsh Sanchar Nigham Limited and work would begin soon," he added.

Andhra Bank's deputy general manager N. Patel said the bank was operating 24 ATMs in the district and had always been in the forefront in offering technology-based services to customers.

"Krishna district is the native district of the bank, where we have 76 branches and four extension counters. Our bank was awarded the `best payment initiative' by the Indian Banks Association (IBA) for having wide ATM networks and highest number of hits per day.

The bank also secured a silver medal from The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) under banking, insurance and financial institutions for excellence in financial reporting for the year 2004-05," he added.

He said Andhra Bank has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with South Central Railways for distribution of salaries from Gudur to Vizag.
