New arrangement to prevent bogus voting

  • Auxiliary polling stations would be set up for women
  • No videograph or vote recording machines would be allowed inside polling booths

    Pondicherry: The election authorities would adopt a new system to prevent impersonation and also bogus voting at the polls in Pondicherry, where Assembly elections would be held in May. District Collector-cum District Election Officer G.Theva Needhi Dhas said here on Sunday that the Presiding Officers in the polling stations would record the number of the EPICs (Electors Photo Identity Cards) of the voters in the registers.

    He said that auxiliary polling stations would be set up for women in booths where elector population was high.

    To enable physically challenged persons to have convenient arrangement to exercise franchise ramps would be provided in all the polling stations for the convenience of these voters.

    The leaders of recognised political parties (both national and State level parties) and also leaders of registered but unrecognised political parties be issued permits as per directives of the Election Commission for vehicles used for poll campaign. The concerned political parties should communicate to the Election Commission and Chief Electoral Officer names of the leaders within seven days from date of publication of notification of election. Candidates contesting the polls should necessarily obtain approval of the concerned Returning Officer for using vehicles for poll campaign and the candidates should display the permits issued to them prominently on the windscreen.

    The Commission has also decided that no video graph or vote recording machine by any person would be allowed inside the polling stations except by persons authorized by the Commission.

    Joint Chief Electoral Officer P. T. Rudra Goud and the Tahsildar Ramasamy were also present.
