Thiruvananthapuram: Three persons were killed in different road accidents in the district on Monday. A 75-year-old man was killed when he was hit by an unidentified vehicle at Sivan Kovil Junction in Nemom police station limits at 5.30 p.m. The police identified the deceased as Sukumaran Nair, a resident of Kulathuvilakam House, Nemom. The body was being kept at the Medical College Hospital mortuary. An unidentified man was fatally injured in an accident involving a vehicle on the National Highway bypass at Eenchakal in the early hours of Monday. The body was being kept at the Medical College Hospital mortuary. A 22-year-old youth was killed when the motorbike on which he was travelling collided with a jeep at Thattathumala in Kilimanoor police station limits on Monday. The police identified the deceased as Selven, a rubber tapper by profession. Another youth, Raja, who was riding pillion, was seriously injured.
Jail for youth
The Second Additional Sessions Judge K.P. Jyotheedranath on Monday sentenced Navas, 29, a resident of Muttathara, to two years rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs.4,000 after he was found guilty of possessing brown sugar worth Rs.3 lakhs.
