ERODE: Of late, the market has been replete with products, and apparently the service sector also witnesses boom. It is only natural that the consumers want products and services to be worth the price they pay.
Gullible customers
But, gullible consumers are cheated by some fraudulent businessmen. Such a scenario in the market creates the need for awareness among the public, said the Principal of Gobi Arts and Science College, Gobichettipalayam, T.V. Palanisamy, on Tuesday.
1,000 households
Keeping this in mind, the Centre for Extension Activities of the Management Department of the College, conducted a consumer awareness campaign at Lakkampatty village near Gobichettipalayam, covering about 1,000 households, he said.
Data gathered
Sixty students of the College participated in the campaign, and distributed pamphlets on consumer rights and grievance redressal procedures. They gathered socio-economic data from the public covering education, occupation, savings and insurance cover and ownership capacity.
Guidance
The president of the Lakkampatty panchayat, K.N. Velumani, inaugurated the programme on March 24 and R. Sellappan, the Head of the Department, guided the students in the survey.
