In unmistakeable terms

Mistakes can be committed by people in any profession, but not by a teacher!

An expert in the field of education, R. Srinivasan, Director, TVS Schools, at a meeting in Madurai Kamaraj University last week, cited how the society does not expect teachers to make mistakes.

He said that if a tailor made a mistake it would be seen as a new fashion; if a driver made a mistake it might end up in an accident; if a parent made a mistake it would be described as generation gap and with a scientist it might be an innovation. But, if a teacher committed a mistake, the society without hesitation would call it a mistake.

"So, this is the importance attached to the profession and teachers will have to take note of that," Mr. Srinivasan said during his lecture on `career planning for budding students and employability skills for getting placements in the industry.'

A large number of teaching fraternity present in the hall nodded in agreement.
