PONDICHERRY: The Election Commission has received 6000 complaints regarding missing names in the final Assembly electoral roll for Pondicherry published a month ago. Out of this 2400 cases have been investigated and found that 1400 are genuine. The remaining 1,000 case have been rejected, Chief Election Commissioner B.B Tandon told reporters after a review meeting. He said the process to add the genuine cases and to find the veracity of the remaining missing complaints is on and would be completed soon.

He further said the genuine names found missing would be added into the second supplement electoral list, which would be published at a later date.

All these electors would also be issued the Electors Photo Identity Cards (EPIC). The voters have to establish the identity by only providing the EPIC.

He said 19 central observers have been appointed for the Union Territory and they would be "closely monitoring" the poll process. The process to establish communication link between the polling booths and district headquarters is on. Digital cameras would be installed at sensitive and hypersensitive polling booths. Sufficient central paramilitary forces would be deployed, he informed.

Police have also been asked to identify sensitive polling booths and closely watch anti social elements.
