KADAPA: Chikun gunya is rampant in Yerramukkapalli, Nagarajupet, Chemmumiyapet, Akkayapalle and Ashoknagar areas in Kadapa town and an action plan has been formulated to check its spread, Kadapa Mayor P. Ravindranath Reddy said on Tuesday. Water pitchers and drums should be covered properly and overhead tanks and air coolers must be cleaned regularly to prevent breeding of tiger mosquito in stored fresh water, the Mayor told a press conference. Consumption of chicken or eggs would not cause chikun gunya, he clarified. An action plan was formulated at a meeting with DMHO K. Pitchi Reddy, Joint Director of Malaria, Corporation Health Officer and sanitary inspectors, Mr. Reddy said.
Medication
Those affected by chikun gunya should take a five-day course of paracetamol and ciprofloxacin, twice a day, he said. Affected persons would be given medicines free of charge at urban health centres and the corporation would create awareness among people through pamphlets, he added. Fogging and spraying operations would be undertaken as part of preventive measures, he said. Sanitary inspectors were entrusted with some municipal divisions each, he said. Medical camps would be conducted to treat those affected. Urging people to be vigilant against incidence of chikun gunya, he said it was not a dangerous disease.
