Bill draws flak
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI:
The anti-conversion bill passed by the Rajasthan Legislature has been criticised by the All India Milli Council for being soft on those converting back to Hinduism while seeking to punish those converting to Islam or Christianity.
Council general secretary Mohammad Manzoor Alam in a statement here on Tuesday said the Bill was ultra vires of the Constitution. He described the passage of the Bill as "fulfilment of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh agenda."
While no one should coerce another person to change his or her faith or offer allurements for this, the Sangh, he charged was trying to stop others from choosing a religion of their choice through intimidation.
Mr. Alam appealed to the Union Home Minister, the Human Rights Commission and all secular parties to stop the RSS and its affiliates from altering the country's secular character and violating the Constitution.
