Demand for probe into police firing

Staff Reporter

KADAPA : CPI(M) district secretary B. Narayana on Tuesday demanded a judicial inquiry into police firing at Gangavaram in Visakhapatnam district.

Comparing the police action against fishermen with that of anti-power tariff protesters during the TDP rule, he alleged that fishermen staging peaceful protest in pursuance of their justified demands were dealt with brutally by the police. Demanding the arrest of erring policemen, he condemned thrashing of women. The Government should not shirk responsibility by merely announcing an ex gratia of Rs. 3 lakhs to the kin of a deceased fisherman
