Driving licence distributed to students at doorstep

They need not spend a day at the RTO

The students were asked to appear for a written test before issuing licence They can later come in batches on any working day and convert the same into permanent licences

Coimbatore: The Transport Department distributed learner's driving licence to 172 students, including 80 girls, of the PSG College of Arts and Science here recently.

The department had been conducting a programme to reach out to the students to provide them with the licence at the doorsteps of the educational institution.

The Deputy Transport Commissioner, Coimbatore Circle, K. Yogarajan, said that the department wanted to imbibe the habit of abiding by rules in the minds of the younger and future generation.

Under this scheme, the students and educational institutions should realise that they are saved of their precious working hours.

They need not spend a day visiting the Regional Transport Office standing in long queues. Lack of time on a working day cannot be an excuse for not having a driving licence.

The Regional Transport Officer, Coimbatore North, D. Mani (holding additional charge of Coimbatore South), said that the students were given a briefing and a written test before issuing licence and they can later come in batches on any working day and convert the same into permanent licences.

Mr. Yogarajan exhorted all educational institutions in the region to make use of the opportunity to ensure that the students took to the road with a valid licence.
