Queensland wins with huge margin

Brisbane: Queensland State, helped by a massive first innings total of 900 for six declared, won its sixth Australian first-class cricket title on Tuesday with an innings-and-354-run win over Victoria.

It was the biggest victory margin in a domestic final in Australia. Queensland, which needed only a draw to take the title, had lost the past three finals.

Queensland captain Jimmy Maher (223), Shane Watson (201 not out), Clinton Perren (173) and Martin Love (169) all hit centuries to set up the victory. The first-innings total, the fifth largest in Australian first-class history, took 16 hours and spanned 242 overs at the Gabba. — AP
