Workshop on remote sensing organised

Kozhikode: The Centre for Environment and Development (CED) and Malabar Christian College organised a one-day workshop on `Remote sensing and geographic information' on the MCC campus here on Monday. The programme was conducted as part of the Kerala Environment Congress 2006 to be held here on June 5, 6 and 7.

In his inaugural address, the Centre for Water resources Development and Management (CWRDM), executive director, E.J. James described the applications of remote sensing and GIS in all fields of technology, especially those relating to climatology, meteorological studies, forest and environmental studies and disaster management. India needs to make advancements in GIS technology, Dr. James said.

College principal Gladys P.E. Issac presided over the inaugural function. N.T. Unnikrishnan, consultant, CED, spoke on `Geoinfomatics: introduction, applications and case studies.'

K. Raveendran, senior advisor, CED, spoke on `Geospatial image processing and remote sensing.' Discussions were held and details of the training course and career prospects highlighted on the occasion.
