Lucknow: Alleging that the Mehar Bhargava murder case had a ``political side'', former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Tuesday called for a CBI inquiry into the matter as also imposition of President's rule in Uttar Pradesh in view of the ``deteriorating'' law and order situation. ``There should be no hesitation on the part of the State Government to recommend a CBI inquiry into the killing,''Mr. Vajpayee told reporters here after offering his condolences to the bereaved family. ``There is political pressure in this case. An attempt to cover up. A political shadow is there on the killing. The culprits have political connections,'' he alleged. Expressing serious concern at the deteriorating law and order situation in the State, Mr Vajpayee said his party had in the past also demanded dismissal of the State Government. Meanwhile, public sentiment especially from women and civil organisations continued to be ventilated in the form of protests. BSP president Mayawati, Union State Minister for Home Affairs Sri Prakash Jaiswal and senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot were other leaders who called upon the Bhargavas to pay their condolence. Earlier, Uttar Pradesh Governor T V Rajeswar and his wife Maha Laxmi visited the family of Mehar Bhargava on Tuesday morning. Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Mayawati condemned the incident and observed it should be seen as a blatant failure of the law and order machinery Uttar Pradesh. Demanding a CBI probe, the BSP leader maintained she had no faith in the State Government as far as investigation in the case was concerned. PTI/UNI
