CHANDIGARH: Herbal parks will be developed in Haryana to spread public awareness about the importance of herbs and make the plantation techniques of medicinal plants available to the farmers, Minister of State for Forests Kiran Choudhary announced here on Tuesday. She disclosed that the construction work for setting up a herbal park at Keru village in Bhiwani had already started. The structure of the park would be similar to that of the `kalpvriksh'. Ms. Choudhary said that various varieties of herbs such as ghee-kawaar, amla, ashvagandha, akarkaraa, safed moosli, gugal, kair, sonamukhi, tulsi, baheda, sadabahar, dathura, sahtooth and jatropha etc would be planted in this herbal park. A poly green house would also be set up in which more than 200 varieties of medicinal plants would be prepared. A herbarium exhibition centre displaying information about importance and uses of medicinal plants would also be set up. According to Ms. Choudhary, there is a great demand for herbs in the international markets. Herbs generate business worth about 60 billion dollars internationally. And India exports medicinal products worth 150 million dollars annually.
