AIADMK denies seats to MLAs

Staff Reporter

The only lucky person in the district is Transport Minister and Natham MLA R. Viswanathan

DINDIGUL: Even as the AIADMK denied seats to all sitting MLAs except Transport Minister and Natham MLA R. Viswanathan in the district, it has given another opportunity to the party's State treasurer and four-time MP from Dindigul C. Srineevasan to contest from Athoor constituency.

(The AIADMK had fielded him in Athoor in 1989 assembly poll. He lost to the DMK district secretary I. Periasamy. He was not given seat to contest from Dindigul in 2004 Parliamentary polls).

Chances were given to new faces irrespective of the party posts they held. Seats were given even to mere members, new entrants and women in the party. Of the seven assembly constituencies, four new faces would be contesting the election for the first time.

They are S. Palanisamy, Vadmadurai Union Chairman, P.K. Nallasamy, Oddanchatram union secretary and loyalist to former Palani MP, K. Kumarasamy, and S. Thenmozhi, member, who joined the party in 1998, and R. Thamizharasi, president of Neikarapatti special panchayat.

These two women would contest from Nilakottai and Palani segments.

With the selection of S. Palanisamy, Vadamadurai, one of the three unions in Vedasandur constituency, the district has the pride to get son-of-the-soil as a candidate. A 25-year-old dream has become a reality. S.M. Vasan, native of Vadamadurai union had won the Vedasandur constituency in 1977.

Later, candidates belonging to Gujiliamparai and Vedasandur unions had been contesting the constituency till 2001. East and west district secretaries - A.T. Sellasamy and S. Marudharaj — too were not given seats this time.

The AIADMK has allotted Dindigul to MDMK to take on the CPI(M).
