Lucknow: All six nominees of the ruling Samajwadi Party (SP)-Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) combine and two each of the BJP and the BSP on Tuesday romped home in the Rajya Sabha biennial elections from Uttar Pradesh. The winning SP-RLD candidates are Janeshwar Mishra, Virendra Bhatia, Mahendra Mohan, Banwari Lal Kanchal, Virpal Yadav and Mehmood Madni. Vinay Katiyar and Kalraj Mishra are the BJP candidates and Balihari and Munkad Ali the BSP candidates.
7 BJP MLAs suspended
Cracking down on party MLAs involved in cross-voting, the BJP suspended seven legislators and expelled another. A party release, quoting State unit chief Kesri Nath Tripathi, said that those suspended were Gangabux Singh, Fagu Chauhan, Amarjeet Singh Jansevak, Ram Prasad Chaudhary, Chotey Lal Verma, Badshah Singh and Puran Singh Bundela. The MLA from Moradabad, Sandeep Agarwal, who had been earlier suspended, was expelled. PTI
