Three police personnel suspended for illegal detention

Man ends life allegedly unable to bear the harassment by police

BANGALORE: Police Commissioner Ajai Kumar Singh has placed three policemen under suspension on charges of harassing a person and keeping him under illegal detention, which reportedly led him to commit suicide.

According to a press release, C.J. Rangaswamy, police inspector of Peenya police station, registered a case against Mohan Reddy and Reddyappa for being responsible for the suicide of Byramma (18) on March 5.

Byramma died of burns and reportedly left a note allegedly holding Mohan Reddy and Reddyappa responsible for his death.

As the two persons were at large, the police caught Prakash Reddy (30), a friend of Mohan Reddy.

The police allegedly questioned Prakash Reddy of Yeshwantapur to know the whereabouts of Mohan Reddy and Reddyappa.

Harassment

Prakash Reddy (30) allegedly committed suicide in Yeshwantapur on Monday reportedly unable to bear the harassment by the police.

The Yeshwantapur police, who investigated the case, reportedly found a suicide note left behind by Prakash Reddy.

In it, he has reportedly said he was harassed by the Peenya Inspector and two constables Hanumantarayappa and Shashidhar Achar. He alleged that the three policemen extracted money during his visits to the police station between March 13 and 23.

Suicide note

Based on this suicide note, the Yeshwantapur police registered a case against Rangaswamy, Hanumantarayappa and Shashidhar Achar.

The police also made Mohan Reddy, Reddyappa, and Gopalkrishna, manager of a distiller company where Prakash Reddy worked, as other accused in the case. Based on this complaint, the Police Commissioner ordered the suspension of the three police personnel.
