AITUC condemns new job contract law in France

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The All-India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) has condemned the new job contract law enacted by the French Government.

In a letter addressed to the French Ambassador here on Wednesday, the AITUC said the new law infringed upon the basic right of workers to employment security and was arbitrary and discriminatory as it enabled employers to fire the workers.

The law is an eye opened to all concerned as to how the working people all over the world will press for their inalienable rights in the era of neo-liberalisation, the latter said.

The Centre of Indian Trade Unions, the Hind Mazdoor Sabha and the All-India Trade Union Congress have expressed deep concern and shock over the Supreme Court judgment pronouncing that the Government had the right to abolish any post created by it.

What is worse, the apex court is reported to have directed courts in the country not to direct re-employment of staff laid off, a joint statement issued by the trade unions said adding that it was more deplorable that the verdict had come in the wake of mounting and unprecedented attack on the workers, particularly their trade union rights including employment security, gross violation of labour laws, indiscriminate privatisation, massive increase in loss of jobs, closures and lock outs.
