Pakistan gets satellite data equipment

B. Muralidhar Reddy

ISLAMABAD: China has provided meteorological satellite data reception equipment to Pakistan to help reduce natural disaster and gather data for a variety of purposes.

According to Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), official news agency, the provision of equipment by China is a part of on-going cooperation in the field of space technology for its peaceful use, at bilateral and regional levels.

In a dispatch from Beijing the news agency said the equipment, based on DVB-S (Digital Video Broadcast-Satellite) technology, would provide real time data collected by China's Fengyun meteorological satellite series.

The equipment was handed over to Pakistan's Ambassador Salman Bashir recently.
