Award for The Hindu photographer

He is among 17 selected for honours

BANGALORE: K. Gopinathan, Special Photographer, The Hindu , Bangalore, has been selected for the annual award (2005-06) of the Karnataka Media Academy. He is among 17 journalists selected for the academy's annual awards.

The Special Award of the academy goes to Sachidananda Murthy, Chief of Bureau of The Week in New Delhi. The award comprises a cash prize of Rs. 15,000, a memento and a citation.

Mr. Gopinathan has been a press photographer for a number of years. He served in City Tab, Indian Express and Kannada Prabha before joining The Hindu . He is a recipient of various awards, including the KUWJ (Karnataka Union of Working Journalists) award. He has organised exhibitions of his photographs.

The other award winners are Ponnappa (cartoonist), The Times of India, Bangalore; Munjane Sathya (television journalist), Bangalore; Vijaya (film journalist), Bangalore; K.H. Savitri (Samyukta Karnataka), Bangalore; Rafi Bhandary (Daily Salar, Bijapur); R.P. Jagadish, formerly of Prajavani, Bangalore; R.T. Majjagi, Jagrutha Vani, Hubli; Indupura Honnapura, Bangalore; N. Gururaj, Udayavani, Manipal; H.L. Keshavamurthy Udayakala, Mandya; S. Ranganath, Prathinidhi, Hassan; Eachanur Kumar, Vijaya Karnataka, Mysore; Ramakrishna, New Indian Express, Raichur; Keshavamurthy Avadhani, Kannada Prabha, Gulbarga (Abhimani Award); and Basavaraj Hongal, Ushakirana, Bangalore (Mysore Digantha Award).

Karavali Munjavu, a newspaper published from Karwar, has won the Andolana Award for reporting on rural issues.

Academy Chairman V.N. Subbarao, who announced the awards on Wednesday, said they will be presented at a function at Chowdiah Memorial Hall here in the third week of April.
