Clarification
Referring to the report `Simple tests can predict diabetes' (Chennai, March 27, 2006, page 5) Dr. S.S. Badrinath of Sankara Nethralaya writes to clarify that he said: For early detection of kidney diseases, checking of urine for albumin particularly Micro Albumin would help in early diagnosis; Fundus examination and detection of diabetic retinopathy would be useful for confirmation of the diagnosis of borderline cases of diabetic nephropathy; Screening for diabetes require fasting and blood sugar examinations and suspected cases may require glucose tolerance test.
