RWITC remains firm

Mumbai: A press release from the Stewards of the RWITC clarifies its decision on the punishments meted out to Trainer Vinayak and his Jamadar Kalu Singh Rathod for tampering with the urine sample of Glory on March 23 (the Jamadar was caught on the secret surveillance camera).

The press release states: Trainer Vinayak was informed by the Stewards that the act of tampering with the urine sample by Jamadar was a serious racing malpractice as it destroyed the integrity of the sample.

On a query by the Club to accredited laboratories in Dubai, England and Hong Kong, it was confirmed that dilution of urine samples could prevent the detection of prohibited substances in biological samples as it would reduce the concentration of all the constituents in the sample. As a result, the report of the diluted sample which has been sent for analysis, cannot be relied upon. Hence the Stewards did not have to wait for the report to decide on the punishments. Moreover empowered by Rule 202 of the Rules of Racing, the Stewards decided to withdraw Kalu Singh Rathod's Jamadar licence and warn him off with immediate effect up to March 27, 2011 for being guilty and suspended trainer Vinayak from April 10, 2006 to April 9, 2007 for being guilty of not ensuring the integrity of the sample and was held responsible for the fradulent act of his Jamadar, having signed an undertaking that he was reponsible for the proper collection of the urine sample.

Consideration of the matter of disqualification of Glory under Rule 75 of the Rules of Racing has been deferred.
