Hurriyat leader meets Pakistan Prime Minister

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said on Thursday that any "long-lasting" solution of the Kashmir issue called for an agreement among Pakistan, India and the Kashmiris.

Talking the visiting Hurriyat leader, Mirwaiz Omar Farooq, who called on him here Mr. Aziz said that "sustainable peace" in the South Asia would not be not possible without the settlement of Kashmir dispute.

Sacrifice

He told the Mirwaiz that the people of Kashmir had made "tremendous sacrifices" to attain their right of self-determination and Pakistan valued their wishes and aspirations. The Pakistan Prime Minister assured that his country would continue to support them through diplomatic and political channels.

Individual's rights

Mr. Aziz said in today's world when a lot of importance was being given to rights of individuals, "it is extremely unjustified that Kashmiris are denied their right of self determination for more than 58 years."

Mr. Farooq said the Hurriyat fully agreed with the approach adopted by Pakistan for the solution of the Kahsmir issue.

He appreciated Pakistan's suggestion of demilitarisation and said that if implemented, the proposal would be a very important milestone in the ultimate solution of the Kashmir issue. He urged India to respond to Pakistan's proposal.
