Army Chief hails deal with U.S.
MUMBAI:
The India-U.S. nuclear agreement signed recently would safeguard the security of the country, Chief of the Army Staff, Gen. J.J. Singh, said here on Thursday.
After the launch of the first ship of Project-15A at the Mazagaon Docks, the Army Chief said the deal would strengthen the nuclear programme of the country.
"We should welcome the agreement as it ensures the security and safety of the nation as well as strengthening the nuclear programme of the country," he said.
Referring to the Siachen issue, he said: "Composite dialogue between India and Pakistan is on in this regard and if both the sides agree, demilitarisation of the Siachen may take place."
On Jammu and Kashmir, the General said terrorist activities were on the decline in the valley.
"We have adequate troops to control terrorism in J&K and the situation is very much stable," he added. UNI
